Ain Kroumir

On the 16th of April 1914 the Swiss painter Paul Klee made the following note into his diary: "Colour has got hold of me. I need not snatch at her any more. She has got me for ever, I am sure. That is the meaning of this most happy hour: me and colour have become one. I am a painter.“ During the two-week journey the German painter August Macke, who accompanied Klee along with Louis Moilliet, created more than a hundred drawings and 38 watercolours, which are counted among the highlights of 20th century painting.

Paul Klee and August Macke were already overwhelmed by the colours of Tunisia.

Unfortunately, the famous painters did not visit the Kroumirie. But they would most certainly have taken pleasure with its colours, too. Especially as such rich and different shades of browns, greys and greens can perhaps not be found anywhere else in Tunisia.
